Broken (adjective)
Brokenness is not a term found in the Bible, but I hear believers talk about brokenness often. The definitions of brokenness vary depending upon our understanding of the word. I spent years believing that God was out to "break" me - no matter what I wanted. This made me feel afraid when painful events occurred, and I would get busy trying to figure out how to make God stop the pressure. How could I do better? How could I be more pleasing, obedient, useful?
No wonder I was afraid!
What if Jesus has BROKEN the law of sin and death? What if God is committed to revealing His heart, His perfect provision, His sufficiency in ALL things?
What if Romans 8:1,2 are true?
I believe Romans is true. As is the rest of the Bible.
I hope you will explore the pages and chew on how Beautiful Brokenness is different than you might think.
Beautiful Brokenness is about Jesus. One of Jesus' favorite teaching methods is metaphor. He loves to use His Creation as a bridge leading His people directly to His heart. Animals are precious to God. He values them so much, that their blood became the payment for Mankind's sin until the Lamb of God came to take away sin once and for all.
Horses, like sheep, are prey animals, used for the benefit of humans. Horses and sheep have specific needs. If these needs are not met, the horse/sheep cannot feel safe. The Bible is full of references to shepherds and their relationship with their sheep. I like sheep, but they do impact my soul the way sheep did for the folks in Jesus's day.
Horses make my heart got pitter-pat and help me comprehend the heart of the Good Shepherd. Safety is a horse's primary need. It is the human who must understand what the horse needs, and provide. The human must initiate, and complete the horse's ability to receive the provision. Only the human is able to break the law of predator and prey.
This is how brokenness is beautiful!
God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) has broken the law of sin and death. He is the only One who could! Jesus is my perfect provider and Good Shepherd.
Horses help me identify with and receive the heart of the Rescuer - Jesus!
